Safeguarding Training Policy
Aligned with AEGIS Standard 6.3
1. Policy Statement
Skywise Educational Guardianship UK Ltd is committed to ensuring that all staff, volunteers, and homestay primary carers are fully trained and competent in safeguarding and child protection. We recognise the importance of safeguarding training in keeping children safe from harm and ensuring the highest standards of care for the international students under our guardianship.
This policy outlines our procedures for the delivery, renewal, and record-keeping of safeguarding training for all relevant personnel.
2. Safeguarding Training Requirements
2.1 Initial Safeguarding Training
● All members of staff, volunteers, and the primary carer in every homestay must complete appropriate introduction to safeguarding training (previously known as Level 1) before starting their role.
● This training can be delivered online or in person.
● If an individual has already completed a suitable safeguarding training course, they must provide a copy of the certificate to Skywise for verification. The certificate must clearly show:
o The title and level of the training
o The date of completion
o The expiry or renewal date
2.2 Safeguarding Training Renewal
● Safeguarding training must be renewed every three years.
● The DSL will ensure that all staff, volunteers, and homestay primary carers are informed in good time when their training is due for renewal.
● Skywise will advise individuals of suitable training options and can provide recommendations in line with AEGIS guidance.
2.3 Safeguarding Updates
● All staff, volunteers, and homestay primary carers will receive regular safeguarding updates, at least once per year.
● Updates may cover:
o Changes to legislation and statutory guidance
o Updates to Skywise’s safeguarding policies and procedures
o Current safeguarding risks (e.g., online safety, mental health, radicalisation)
● These updates will be delivered via email, online briefings, or in-person sessions, as appropriate.
3. Record Keeping
● Skywise will maintain a formal Safeguarding Training Record that includes:
o The name of each staff member, volunteer, and homestay primary carer
o The type and level of safeguarding training completed
o The date of completion and the expiry/renewal date
o Copies of safeguarding certificates (where applicable)
● The DSL will oversee and maintain these records, which will be available for inspection as required.
4. Responsibilities
● The Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL) is responsible for ensuring:
o All relevant individuals receive appropriate safeguarding training prior to starting their role
o All safeguarding training is renewed every three years
o A formal safeguarding training record is maintained and kept up to date
o Annual safeguarding updates are provided to all relevant individuals
● Staff, volunteers, and homestay primary carers are responsible for:
o Completing safeguarding training as required
o Providing certificates and evidence of training to Skywise
o Attending annual safeguarding updates
5. Review of Policy
This policy will be reviewed annually or following significant changes to safeguarding legislation or best practice guidance. Updates will be approved by the Company Director (DSL) and communicated to all staff, volunteers, and homestay carers.
